I get on a lot of marketing lists through the process of buying products that are theoretically supposed to help my business.

I have to periodically do a purge when I see that I’m just being bludgeoned with crap offers and recommendations…..DAILY. It’s kind of my form of an internet marketing enema. Because, man is there a butt-load of crap being peddled these days!

Dude, if you are going to send me something daily? It better well be damn good.

Unfortunately, mostly it’s not.

Then there’s the whole “buzz” and launch type hypefication that occurs when someone releases their product. I find myself inundated with 27-1/2 emails touting the virtues of the WSO of the day (or the latest Clickbank launch). It reminds me that we live in an “instant gratification” culture and people clamor to get the latest widget NOW. This is why I killed my TV. I felt assaulted by the news and the commercials and the dumbed down content. This is not to say I don’t enjoy a good movie or even a good TV show. I just do it on my terms and not the cable company’s. I download what I want to watch, and watch it when I want. No commercials, no news, no more crap.

Basically I’m more of a tortoise in a rabid rabbit society. Maybe it’s because I’m a little longer in the tooth than most Internet Marketers. But really? If I buy something, I want to know that it’s going to work in the long term.

I realize that the IM world is a constantly changing world and that yesterdays strategies may not necessarily work today….but I think there are some strategies that do work more over the long haul. These are the kinds of things that interest me.

With that in mind, here is my promise to anyone signing up for my newsletter. I will not bludgeon you with crap. You will not get an email from me when something launches unless I have a chance to try it out and see if it works first. So rabbits beware….! This old tortoise will only mail you when I have something valuable to say. That may be once a week….it might even be once a month. But it will not be daily. Nuff said.

You’ve all heard it….Keep It Simple Stupid…or KISS is one of those not-new things well all “know” but rarely apply.

In today’s increasing complex world, I’m finding myself hungering to simplify everything that I can. This is especially true of my online business, because I’m still a ways away from the much lauded “four hour work week”.

One of my favorite gurus had a webinar he did recently on Time Management. It was about the Pomodoro method.

It was a real eye opener for me, but it was kind of lacking in one area. Namely; how do you “bucketize” your things to do.

Enter David Allen. He has a whole system called “Getting Things Done” or GTD for short. A friend at work recently went to one of his seminars and raved about it, so I checked it out for myself.

It really is a whole new way of thinking about all the open loops in your life. Everything from the mundane (buy milk) to the ridiculously complex (make my house sustainable).

Combining these two methods together has really changed both how productive I am as well as relieved my poor brain from having to keep track of all my “stuff”.

I’m by no means a black belt yet at either of these methods, but It does give me a nice simple structure to put my life in.

It’s been nearly two years since I started this journey of leaving my soul sucking day job to fulfill my dream of working from my recliner. Preferably 4 hours or so a week.

Boy do I have a way to go. But the dream has not diminished in that time, just clarified.

I, like many newbie Internet Marketers, got sucked into the “Bright Shiney Object” syndrome.

I basically bought a lot of crap that promised to be “push button easy” and it turned out…..not so much.

But I learned a lot from my mistakes and have radically simplified and streamlined my whole business.

It’s made a huge difference in my peace of mind.

So.
